At Step by Step institute we provide a variety of assessments based on the individual needs of your child.

Each assessment service includes a parent interview, a developmental questionnaire, written report and recommends areas for development along with individual goals. Reports will also recommend the type and frequency of intervention required in order to meet the goals based on the child’s needs.

For each assessment session, our specialist team uses observational assessments and various standardised tests. Depending on the needs of the child we may check the following:

  • Cognitive skills:including attention, concentration, sequencing, memory, organizational skills, problem solving.
  • Communication skills: articulation, expressive and reception language skills, oral-motor skills
  • Play and social interaction skills: imitation, cooperative play, pretend play, turn taking, initiating and responding, eye contact, negotiation, conflict resolution, self-control, establishing and maintaining friendship
  • Emotional skills: recognizing feelings, emotional regulation, solving challenging situations
  • Assistive technology: Communication aids, visual supports, learning aids
  • Sensory processing: vision, hearing, touch, taste, smell and internal senses; proprioception and vestibular processing, playing with objects, activity level, focus and concentration
  • Gross Motor Skills: posture, range of movement, assessment of basic motor ability
  • Fine Motor skills:object use, assessment of hand function, finger strength, level of mobility, tactile perception and reflex development.
  • Handwriting:assessment of motor control, posture,  pencil grip, paper position, stabilisation, line use, spacing, letter formation, orientation
  • Self-care/independence: activities of daily living, including use of cutlery, dressing, toileting and personal hygiene.
  • Muscle development: muscle tone and balance skills.
  • Visual Perceptual skills:visual motor integration and visual perception

School Based:

We understand the importance of gathering information about all aspects of your child’s daily life and therefore we do provide you with a questionnaire for school to complete should you wish to involve them in the process.

We offer a selection of assessment packages to support school in identifying and supporting children with various learning, behaviour, sensory and/or communication challenges. As it is very important to gather information about all aspects of your child’s level of functioning, we also involve teachers in the treatment process and ask them complete a questionnaire. We provide supervision and teacher training to be able to carry the intervention program within the classroom.

Home based:

At Step by Step Institute, we provide flexible intervention services including comprehensive assessment at the more natural home environment which will help with the personalisation of the treatment. Assessing and observing the child at home maximize the efficiency of the treatment and fosters the cooperation between parents and specialists so that parents are actively involved and participate in the treatment process.

We offer various comprehensive assessments and screening in all areas of development. Following an initial consultation, our specialists will decide on the most appropriate assessment to gather data about the child using observation, specific tests, tools and methods to be able to develop an effective and individually tailored plan.
